Great Results for Irish Team Members in the WOC

Niamh - Long Finals WOCCongratulations to Niamh O’Boyle (CNOC) and Nicolas Simonin (BOC) on their top 40 finishes in the Long Distance finals of the World Orienteering Championships in Trondheim, Norway. Niamh ran a fantastic race finishing in 34th place and Nick placed 39th in the men's final. Nick was also 41st in the Sprint final.

Both Niamh and Nick are the reigning Irish Long Distance Champions.

Good luck to David Healy (GEN) in the middle distance final on Saturday and to all team members in the relays on Sunday.

David Healy had a good race for Ireland, finishing in 43rd place in the Middle Distance final.

The Irish women's realy team of Rosalind Hussey (FermO), Ciara Largey (FermO) and Niamh O’Boyle where 24th just behind Spain and Italy and ahead of New Zealand, Romania, Japan and Brazil. 

The men's realy team of David Healy, Andrew Quin (3ROC) and Nicolas Simonin fnished in 23rd ahead Spain, Belgium, Brazil, Canada, USA, Japan and China.

In a message from Ivan Millar, HPO Driector, he confirmed that Niamh O'Boyle's 34th place in the long distance final at WOC 2010 was the best ever Irish female result at a World championships, just pipping Eileen Loughman's 37th place in the 1979 long distance final. The best men's results in the past were Wally Young who placed 27th in the classic distance at WOC 1981 in Switzerland, Aonghus O'Cleirigh who was 28th also in the classic distance at WOC 1987 held in France and John Feehan's 36th in the 2001 middle distance final.
